Trump said Thursday his administration is "more ready than we have ever been before" to take military action against North Korea, if that step is needed.
"I've spoken with [Defense Secretary Jim] Mattis, and our joint chiefs of staff, and our military, which is by far the most powerful anywhere in the world that has been greatly enhanced recently [and] is ready if necessary," Trump said during an event at the Oval Office.
The president's comments came just a few hours after he announced his withdrawal from a June 12 summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. Trump cited Pyongyang's recent threat of nuclear war with the U.S. in his letter to Kim as a reason why the summit had to be put off.
