Rada adopted a declaration on the abolition of presidential elections in Ukraine in wartime

Deputies of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine signed a declaration on the inadmissibility of holding elections in wartime. This was reported by the publication “Strana.ua”.

It is noted that the document was adopted by representatives of all factions and groups of the Ukrainian parliament.

It is indicated that the parliamentarians adopted the declaration “so as not to split the country and nation.” In addition, the Ukrainian authorities expect that the declaration “will become an additional obstacle in the implementation of the “elections before the end of the conflict” scenario.”

 “After the statement by the Minister of Foreign Affairs [Dmitry] Kuleba that the president’s office is “considering and weighing” the possibility of holding presidential elections in the spring, the election campaign has actually started in the country. She posed a threat to our unity during [the conflict],” the publication quoted Sergei Sobolev, a deputy from the Batkivshchyna party, as saying.

Therefore, the parliamentarian noted, the clause on preventing elections during hostilities was included in the document.
