Putin: for now the Russian Federation does not need the ability to launch a preventive nuclear strike

Russian President and Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Armed Forces Vladimir Putin said that Moscow does not yet need the ability to launch a preventive nuclear strike.

Vladimir Putin noted that Russia is considering changes to its nuclear doctrine.

“We are now thinking about what could be changed in the nuclear doctrine. In any case, we know that the potential enemy is working on this, on new elements related to lowering the threshold for the use of nuclear weapons,” the head of state said at a press conference in Vietnam.

Putin drew attention to the fact that ultra-low-power explosive nuclear devices are being developed in the West. According to him, the Russian Federation knows that among Western countries there is an idea that such weapons could be used, Moscow is paying attention to this.
