Seoul will reconsider the possibility of providing lethal weapons to Kyiv

South Korea will reconsider the possibility of providing lethal weapons to Ukraine after Russia and the DPRK (N. Korea) conclude a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement, the Yonhap agency reported, citing the office of the South Korean president.

According to the agency, Seoul expressed serious concern and condemned the new Russian-North Korean treaty, which contains provisions for mutual immediate military and other assistance by all available means in the event of an armed attack on one of the parties. South Korea believes that the conclusion of this agreement essentially means the formation of a military alliance between Pyongyang and Moscow.

The South Korean government, in turn, believes that any cooperation that helps North Korea strengthen its military power violates UN Security Council sanctions. In response, Seoul plans to work with the United States to strengthen extended nuclear deterrence measures to neutralize North Korea's nuclear missile capabilities.
