Scholz: the deployment of US long-range missiles in Germany will not lead to escalation with Russia

The deployment of new US missiles on German territory will not contribute to escalation with Russia, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said.

During a joint press conference with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Scholz noted: Germany will organize arms supplies to Ukraine in such a way that they do not contribute to direct confrontation with Russia.

The Chancellor assured that the security of Germany and NATO is always taken into account when making decisions.

"Weapons serve as a deterrent, a security factor. And what we are concerned about is the prevention of war," he said

  1. Washington and Berlin said in a joint statement on July 10 that the US would begin deployments of long-range fires capabilities in Germany in 2026, "which have significantly longer range than current land-based fires in Europe." Russian Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov pointed out that such plans increased the likelihood of a missile race and could lead to uncontrolled escalation.
