Trump says spoke with Zelensky, pledges to 'end the war'

US Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump said in a post on Truth Social that he had a "very good call" with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and pledged to end the war pitting Ukraine against Russia through negotiations.

Mr Zelensky also reported his conversation with Mr Trump and expressed thanks for US military assistance. However, he made no reference in a post on social media platform X to efforts to end the 28-month-old conflict.

Trump has repeatedly stated that if he wins the presidential election this year, he intends to bring about a quick settlement of the Ukrainian conflict. During the pre-election debate with US President Joe Biden on June 27, Trump promised that, if re-elected, he would be able to end the conflict before his inauguration on January 20, 2025.
